Yemen has a coastline of about 2350 km with a shelf area of approximately 41,000 km2 making the fisheries sector a major natural resource.
Accordingly the Government of Yemen has given high priority to the development of this sector placing particular emphasis on improving the capabilities of the artisanal fisheries and its capacity to increase its catches as well as maintain better quality of the products landed.
This industry has made significant progress in the past two decades.
